Update: Brainspotting Sessions Now Available!

A Brain-Body Approach to Healing and Growth

At Skill Tree Therapy, I believe that healing involves more than understanding our experiences intellectually—it also involves listening to the wisdom of the body. That's why I am excited to offer Brainspotting as part of my therapeutic practice.

Brainspotting is a brain-body therapy developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003. It is based on the understanding that experiences can become stored within the brain and nervous system, sometimes continuing to affect us long after an event has passed. While talk therapy can be incredibly valuable, some experiences are difficult to fully access or process through words alone.

Brainspotting helps identify specific eye positions, known as "brainspots," that connect to deeper emotional and physiological processing. By combining focused attention with awareness of what is happening in the body, Brainspotting creates an opportunity for the nervous system to process and integrate experiences in a safe and supportive way.

Why a Somatic Approach?

Many people have had the experience of logically knowing they are safe, capable, or no longer in a difficult situation, yet still experiencing anxiety, physical tension, emotional overwhelm, flashbacks, intrusive memories, or other involuntary body responses.

This is because our bodies and nervous systems can hold onto experiences even when our conscious minds understand what has happened.

Brainspotting works with these brain-body connections, helping clients notice and process what is showing up beneath the surface. Rather than focusing solely on talking through an experience, we pay attention to the body's natural responses and allow the nervous system space to do the work it is designed to do.

Brainspotting May Be Helpful For:

  • Anxiety and chronic stress

  • Emotional overwhelm

  • Nervous system dysregulation

  • Intrusive memories and flashbacks

  • Self-confidence and self-worth concerns

  • Performance enhancement (creative, academic, athletic, or professional)

  • Difficult life experiences that continue to have an emotional or physical impact

  • Personal growth and self-exploration

What to Expect

Brainspotting sessions often involve periods of focused observation and reflection rather than continuous conversation. There is no pressure to retell difficult experiences in detail. Instead, we work collaboratively to notice what arises in the mind and body and follow the nervous system's natural process.

Because Brainspotting is a deeper and more focused modality, 90-minute sessions are generally recommended to allow sufficient time for processing.

If you're curious about Brainspotting, I would be happy to discuss whether it may be a good fit for your goals.
